An Aunt’s Pride

Yep! I am so proud of my nephew! XD

I told you guys already about how we had a Photowalk in Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife in Quezon City.

What I didn’t tell you is that my nephew won 2nd place in our Photo Challenge!

Me so proud! I almost had a heart attack because I was so happy! Maybe I should consider bringing a medical computer cart to check my vitals during photowalks. XD

I’ve been giving my nephew several lessons on how to shoot using his father’s DSLR, and my good ol’ Point and Shoot, and I’m happy to see that he’s doing great. So great, in fact, that I lost to him that day, having only 1 vote. XD

But hey, I’m just happy to see that he’s a great photographer, and that he has an eye for photography. I’ve encouraged him to keep at it, and hopefully, he’ll be a better photographer than I am.

Keep up the good work, dude! When we have another photowalk, I’ll make sure to bring you along again!

The Philippine Eagle

* this picture would probably look good in anĀ ipod touch 4th generation picture viewer…*

You know, one of the things that annoy me so much about my childhood was that I never really went to zoos or museums.

Like recently, I came across a Philippine Eagle in the Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife… and it was my first time in 27 years to actually SEE a Philippine Monkey-Eating Eagle.

How sick is that. >_<

Yep, in the recent anniversary/ photowalk of our camera club, PnSers.com, we went to the Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife and I FINALLY saw this awesome bird. Strange to think that it’s our National Bird and I haven’t seen it until now.

I need to head to zoos and museums more often.

I took several pictures of it, but this one is my favorite shot… mainly because it looked bewildered. It’s face is like, “What is this fat chick doing? Haven’t she seen someone of my kind in her life?”

Quite honestly, if that eagle had the ability to talk and ask me that question, I’d say, “Yes, it is my first time to see a Phil. Eagle up close. What can I say… my parents loved Luneta when I was a kid.”

Anyway, it’s pretty cool to finally a creature this magnificent. It’s horrid to think that they’re endangered. Hopefully, modern science and the government could do something to help preserve and protect these eagles. I’d hate to think that my children (should I have any) would miss out in seeing creatures as awesome as these eagles. >_<

Statue Photography

In connection to my Kuya James’ wedding in Pampanga, I was able to take a lot of pictures during the event… most of them are of statues, though.

This one, in particular, kind of creeped me out. I don’t think this kind of photo would be included in any Christmas Cards this coming December, specially since it shows one of the cherubims with a smashed-up and cracked-up face.

Huwaaaaa…. creepy. ~_~

I really like taking pictures of statues. Is that weird? I like trying to find the perfect angle for them so it would look like they’re actual living things instead of statues… it’s like trying to find some sort of “life” in them even though they’re not actually “alive”. It’s actually pretty challenging.

But like I’ve always said, it’s going to take a lot of practice before I can make pictures like that. Hahaha! Looks like I’d better keep practicing. ~_~

Weddings…

I recently went to Pampanga for Kuya James’ wedding.

Clearly, not one of my best shots of the event, but it was good. XD

Weddings are great events for practicing photographers like me. But… I don’t know, it made me a little sad, I guess. I don’t know why.

But I was very happy for my Kuya James of course. I think I’m happy for anyone who is about to be married… specially if they really love each other.

I don’t know, I guess it’s my single girl genes kicking. I’ve been single for so long that marriage seems like a very far thing for me… which is a little good I guess. Since I have some more priorities to settle before even thinking about marriage.

But anyway, congrats to my awesome Kuya James, and his wife, Lyra. ^_^v

ZenkX Tries “Paintography”

Gosh I am learning so much stuff… it’s AWESOME! XD

Yep, in my search to become a better photographer (and blogger), I’ve adapted one of my PnSers-learned skill recently on some of my photos… it’s just too bad I don’t have any ink cartridges on my printer right now so I can print them and frame them.

It’s not that great yet, but… I’ll get to it. I think, like all my other shots, I need a heck lot of practice to perfect my “paintography”. I think it takes really creative eyes to know which pictures to “paint” and to leave alone, because sometimes editing a picture too much can be bad for the overall effect of the shot and what it’s supposed to show.

But anyway, NEW SKILL ACQUIRED! LEVEL UP! (Sorry, I’ve been playing Final Fantasy X a little bit way too much XD).

I’ll be heading down to San Beda College, Taytay tomorrow for a seminar, and if I remember correctly, that area is a great place to take pictures because of their lush, green fields around the campus. I just hope I don’t get lost. XD

Here comes deh froggehs!

I swear to God, I’m turning into a frog magnet. T_T

During one of my late night Internet binges, I heard a funny noise from our dining room, which sounded like a piece of plastic being crumpled. I turned around, looking for someone, but there was nobody there. I shrugged and continued surfing.

But then it happened again, and again, and AGAIN! By the fourth time I heard the noise, I was getting freaked out, since I was afraid it was a mouse (yeah, I’m scared of mice now ~_~), but I couldn’t see where it was, and it wasn’t squeaking.

And so I finally got the courage to stand up from my computer and look for the plastic-crumpling culprit.

As it turns out, it was this guy:

Yep, it’s a frog… hopping around a plastic bag in our dining room, trying desperately to get out through our window screens.

Actually, I had to take this picture in full zoom, since I did not want to get near the frog (yeah, I’m scared of frogs too ~_~).

I swear, I am so afraid of so many things it’s starting to annoy me.

Anyway, after I took this picture, I left (closing my bedroom door because I was afraid the frog would jump his way into my room ~_~). Luckily, the next day, the frog was gone.

Waaaaa I hate frogs. ~_~

HDR Photography Testing

During the PnSers Photowalk recently, I decided to try my hand at HDR (or High Dynamic Range) Photography, since I’ve always wanted to test it out on landscapes and steel buildings and stuff.

This is what I came up with:

Meh… I think it would’ve been prettier if the canal had been much cleaner. XD

Anyway, it’s not so bad, I guess. The point is, I was able to get how to do it right, thanks to my blogging (and now photography) guru, raredog. I need lots of practice for this, because I have issues with my stabilization (my hands shake REALLY badly ~_~)… I’m going to have to keep using a tripod or a monopod if I need to stabilize myself. ~_~ I’m hoping I’ll be able to use this sort of photography technique when I spend some vacation time in Pangasinan or Marinduque.

The photowalk also included a half-day long workshop on basic photography, and I was able to get a few pointers on how to use the “Manual” mode of my beloved Fujifilm S1800 (which reminds me, I’m kind of envious of raredog and one of our members… they have a name for their camera…. maybe I should come up with one as well? XD). I’ll posting more pictures of my shots soon. ^_^v

So, back to practicing! XD

Bloggers Fest 2011

Yep, I’m in the Bloggers Fest right now! *hmm… is that they call a Live Feed…? I have no idea. XD*

It’s actually pretty cool to be here, it’s been a while since I have been to a Blogger’s event, and it’s my first time to attend a Bloggers Fest.

I’m with my friends from PnSers.comChief Raredog is here, so are our members clutch and Franz.

It’s great to be here… it’s almost like being in school again…. like, blogging school. Harharhar! It made me realize I still have a long way to go before I could consider myself a true blogger. More studying for me. XD

Anyway, thanks to Azrael Coladilla for coordinating this awesome event (all hail the Pinoy Blogging guru! XD) and thanks to all the speakers and people here. I hope this happens again and way more often. It’s a great stepping stone for new bloggers coming into the blogging scene. XD

The Future Photographer?

Actually, that’s my nephew who has recently been into photography. He is so awesome.

And he’s so grown up! Sheesh! One of these days, I’m going to have to buy him some new parish clothing… he’s reaching my height already. ~_~

I took this photo when we ate out after his Elementary graduation. Sheeesh. The kid is in high school already… I can still remember when he was two years old, when we were sitting at the front seat of my mother’s car, singing “Eyes On Me” by Faye Wong while we waited for her to finish her shopping. Those were the days. T_T

He’s growing up way too fast for me. It makes me feel so old. XD

But, I’m still a bit happy, especially since I was able to teach him some photography. I actually envy him a bit, since he can use his parents’ Canon DSLR camera when he’s taking pictures. I hope he can harness his skills in photography, I could tell he has the eyes for it. Maybe when he reaches the proper age, I can be bring him to our photo walks.

Hmm… a 12-year old kid, capturing photos with a DSLR camera borrowed from his parent… it kind of reminds me of me when I was still using my dad’s SLR camera fifteen years ago. It kind of made me envious that he can use the DSLR, but then again, I have my own Point and Shoot camera that has yet to fail me. Hahaha. Besides, like my friends used to say, “it’s not the bow, it’s the Indian.” XD

Panning Victory!

Remember when I said that my weakness in photography would be panning shots?

Well, lucky me, I got one down! XD

During the Rev UP event, I was able to take this cool panning shot of an RC car during one of the RC Drifting events that was held there.

It’s not much, but it was pretty cool to see that it is attainable, I just have to practice hard for it. XD
