Zenkx’s Frustrated Writings?

My literary talents need an outlet.

JUST KIDDING! My writing capabilities needs more honing, since I’m just an amateur. :))

Well, I’ve been thinking of adding a new page in my site, where I can post some of my short stories, poetry, lyrics (with no music ~_~”), etc. I don’t have much writings to post yet, and some of them (the ones I’ve written in high school) have been ruined by Typhoon Ketsana (aka Ondoy). But I was able to repair some of them, and I’m looking for somewhere to post them, since my Fanfiction.net site doesn’t exactly cater to my other non-fictional works.

So I thought of posting them here, instead of keeping them on paper, to make sure that they’re preserved (well, sort of). Although I am a little nervous… what if someone plagiarizes my work and claims it as their own? Huhuhu… I don’t want that to happen, since I’m proud of my works, and if someone steals it, it’ll be like stealing a precious treasure from me.

Anyway, what do you guys think? Is it a good idea, or should I just ditch it?

Guitar Hero: Not For The Weak Hearted Gamer

Or rather, the short fingered gamer. XD

I’m not much of a guitarist. In fact, I suck at music. Hahaha! It’s my stupid brother who brought out my addiction to Guitar Hero. I swear, my bro could probably turn industrial hand wheels with just his fingers… they’re so frickin’ quick and strong. I wish I had guitarist fingers. Huhuhu. I have a really, really weak and puny pinkie. ~_~

Anyway, like I said, the Guitar Hero games are a completionist’s nightmare, especially if you have GH3. It’s a total NIGHTMARE! My bro’s friend once brought GH3 to our house to check his guitar controller, and I pretty much sucked at it. Hahaha! Yeah, I suck at GH and I’m proud of it! XD

Guitar Hero: Van Halen is currently under production, while GH for the PS3 is still under construction, since there was a legal issue concerning the GH’s incompatibility with the PS3.

As for me, I still have a very, very, very, very, VERY long way to go before I could be a real GH addict. I can’t even finish “Free Bird” on Medium with a complete score (demmet ~_~).

Here’s a BOT playing DragonForce’s “Through the Fire and Flamers” for the GH3. I know some guy finished this song and got a Guinness World record for it. Sheesh. XD

Tales from the Isle of Marinduque III: Part VIII

That Sunday, I helped my mom go shopping at the local market. She always had this habit of buying stuff for her store at the province instead of in Manila because it was cheaper. We also tried hard to look for giant sugpo and crabs amidst the pop displays, but they weren’t any (looks like had to spend my Holy Week without eating any of those ~_~). We did however, buy a huge squid, which weighed almost 5 kilos.

We then met with my siblings and sister-in-law, who brought us back to my lola’s house, since we had so much stuff with us. And after lunch, we headed back to the town to buy some pasalubong for my office mates, and my sister-in-law’s relatives. I was able to buy lots and lots of Arrowroot cookies, while my sister bought a nice shirt for her boyfriend. Since it was warm and the heat made us hungry, we headed to a local cafe for some pizza and drinks.

We fixed our stuff when we got home, and by the next morning (Tuesday), we were on our way back to Manila (since the journey was quite uneventful XD)

So there you have it! Zenkx’s experience in Marinduque for the Holy Week! I hoped you had a great time reading about our adventures, and I hope that next year, I’ll have just as many tales to tell when we get back. Harhar! Thanks for reading and sorry for the delay in posting all of these stories. XD

Tales from the Isle of Marinduque III: Part VII

That Sunday morning, we headed to Gasan, Marinduque to watch the annual Gasan-Gasan Festival, which happens during Easter Sunday. When we got there, the parade has already started. It was actually a pretty awesome display of costumes and dancing, that somewhat reminded me of the Mardi Gras festival in New Orleans that I often see in videos and TV. The drums were very loud, and made me and my sister want to dance along with it. It made me appreciate the local gay community, because their dancing added an extra fair and fashion to the occasion. XD

While we were there, we met some of our relatives who lived in Gasan, as well as my cousin’s fiancee. We headed over to their house for some drinks and food, since I wasn’t able to eat breakfast due to excitement in seeing the Festival.

When we got home, my brother’s friends and wife decided to head to the beach. As it turns out, they (his friends) were heading home the next day, since they have a lot of other things to do back in Manila, and they wanted another beach outing. So, we decided to head for the beach to swim again. My brother’s friends took a lot of pictures, and Kuya Jay did a weird photo-bombing in one of the pictures.

Luckily, no one got stung by a sea urchin, although, Kuya Jay got hit by a falling coconut palm. Hahaha!

After our fun day at the beach, we headed back to the Boac Plaza, where San Miguel Beer Corp. was holding a concert for just P100 (which includes 2 beers too). We were treated with performances by bands like Free Verse, and Kuya Jaypee’s favorite band, Brownman Revival!

I swear! These guys are awesome! They gave out so much energy in their performances that most of the audience were dancing! A lot of people (including my sister-in-law) climbed up the stage to take pictures with the band. In fact, they were so much people climbing up the stage that extra muscle was brought in to keep the band safe (like the local police ~_~)

After the concert, my siblings and I were able to take a picture with the band’s guitarist, Alphy, while Kuya Jay got a shot with the band’s frontman, Dino!

When we got home, Kuya Jay & Jaypee and Ate Jenny thanked us for the wonderful time they had in Marinduque. They said it was the greatest fun they had for a long time, and Kuya Jay even promised to come by to Marinduque this end of May for the Santol (our barangay) fiesta. Unfortunately, since I used up so much of my vacation leave already, I won’t be able to come to the festival. Huhuhu. T_T

As we went to bed, I felt a little saddened that my brother’s friends heading home early. But I was happy that they were able to have a great time in Marinduque. With the thought of getting ready to head back tomorrow, we went to sleep.

* To be continued*

PS: Oh by the way, I hope you guys buy Brownman Revival’s latest album, called “Eto Pa”. The band played the songs from that album at the concert, and it’s wicked cool! Reggae fans would love it!!! ^_^v

Adam Lambert needs to learn how to SHUT IT.

‘Nuff said.

I’m not really a huge fan of American Idol, or even Britain’s Got Talent. In fact, the only reality TV that I’m a fan of is Wipe Out (cuz wipe outs make me laugh XD). I am, however, a big fan of talented people.

Take Susan Boyle for example. She’s like the epitome of hidden talents, I swear. She comes in the theater, makes cheeky comments and yet all the while the audience thought she was a joke and laughed. But when she sang, she not only got a standing ovation, but the whole world’s attention, proving that looks can be deceiving and to never judge people by the way they look.

But unfortunately, some people just have to go and slam her all of the sudden, like Adam Lambert. In a recent column from Yahoo!, Lambert called Susan Boyle’s album “terrible” despite the album reaching 4x platinum. While his own album only sold up to 500,00 copies.

Sheesh. Jealous much?

I will admit that after hearing the song Lambert had mentioned, called “White Horses”, I feel that the song just wasn’t fit for Boyle’s powerfully melodic voice. But come on! To say that the WHOLE album was “terrible” is just mean and stupid. Susan Boyle had the coolest rendition of “I Dreamed a Dream”, perhaps even better than Elaine Page. Besides, if the album was really that awful, then it wouldn’t sell 4-million-copies in the US alone, right?

Envy can make people say the most stupid things. And I believe this is the most stupid criticism I’ve ever heard about Susan Boyle. And coming from a second place American Idol, no less. Lambert and Boyle have two different musical styles, and for him to slam her in a musical style that would never be fit for him is just plain wrong. I would’ve understood it if Andrea Bocelli or Josh Groban critiqued her like that, but from a guy who’s more on the punk/rock genre, it’s just… bleh. AND he even said that the way Boyle sang the song was “horrendous and sacrilegious”.

OH COME ON!

You guys want to know what song remake is “horrendous and sacrilegious”? The recent cover of Micheal Jackson’s “We Are the World”. Yeah, search it on YouTube and listen to how horrendous it was. I mean it. I agree with Jay-Z (you know, Beyonce’s hubby) when he said that “We Are The World” is untouchable and should never be remade. But unfortunately, they did, and it came out terrible. I admire their courage and their tenacity to find a way to help out the victims of the Haiti earthquake, but remaking a classic is not a good way to do it. It would’ve been better if they had written a new song for the incident. I’m pretty sure it would’ve sold better.

Anyway, back to the issue, let this be a lesson to all the other artists out there who wish to “critique” their chart opponents. RESEARCH, my friend. If you see that your opponent has a 3.5 million album sales larger than yours, then by all means, shut it. Statistics doesn’t lie when it comes to calculating how lame you are that you’re losing out to an old lady.

Flying High with 3 Angels feat. Lelai

Or rather riding high… since we had to drive our way there. XD

I’m talking about our latest adventure at the 3 Angels Private Hot Spring Resort at Brgy. Pansol, Calamba City, Laguna.

Now for those who are not really familiar with Pansol, it’s a haven for hot spring resorts. You can literally drive through the place and agents from different private pools will smother you with their discounts. Luckily, my sister’s friend, Ate April, found the website for 3 Angels while she was planning the trip, so all we pretty much had to do was get there in one iece. XD

The venue was perfect for our group of 8 people, in fact, it can probably accomodate more. The pool was just right for us and the water was very warm, which was a relief after being in an air-conditioned van for so long. By the way, thanks to the GTExpress for our transportation needs. XD

Since 3 Angels is a private pool, the place itself is built like a house. We had complete accomodations, including 4 rooms, 2 bathrooms, a kitchen, a dining room, and a lounge and pool area. Aside from the hot spring, there were other activities that visitors can do, since they have a billiards table, a dart board and 2 videoke machines. In the balcony area, where the slide for the pool and the view of Mount Makiling and Laguna Bay can be seen, board games such as chess, scrabble, mahjong, and even “sungka” had been set up for everyone’s enjoyment. It’s even Wi-Fi enabled, but I wasn’t able to bring my laptop. XD

With the perfect place and my friends with me, I have to say I had one of the best times of my life during this outing. The dart board especially, became my favorite, because I won against 2 of my friends, despite being a noobie and hitting the outside of the board several times. XD

I was the first to reach 501 in our darts game with Ate April and Kuya Dhen!!!

My only problem now would be billiards, since I pretty much suck at it. I can’t seem to shoot the darn ball in the right pocket even if it’s an easy shot. I hate Physics. ~_~

Anyway, we’re planning on taking another trip (soon I hope). So stay tuned to wherever cool place we might end up!  ^_^v

The (Legendary?) Happy Horse

So, my sister and I were watching TV in my mom’s store when my brother suddenly let out a loud burst of laughter. He came over to us, and laughing, he said, “I got a happy horse!”

Of course, I wasn’t talking about the figurative horse which is “happy” (because I have no idea how you’ll know if a horse IS happy O_o). I’m talking about the “mythical” beer being sold here in the Philippines.

I’m sure any liquor lover (or “tangero” in our local language) has heard of the Happy Horse, but strangely for non-alcoholics, they don’t know about it and considers it a hoax or a joke. I told the “myth” to my mother, and as usual, I get the “Weh! Di nga? (O rly?) O_o” reaction. So to educate both the sober and non-sober (XD) people of the world, here is the story behind the supposedly “mythical” Happy Horse.

There is a beer called Red Horse being sold to stores around the Philippines, and on each case (or box) of this beer is a special one, which has a stronger ‘kick’ than the normal Red Horse (no pun intended XD), due to it’s higher alcohol content. They say you can find one in every case of Red Horse, but sometimes this doesn’t happen. But luckily for my brother, he was able to find one.

I’m posting these pictures to show you guys the difference between the Happy Horse (the one on the left) and the normal Red Horse (the one on the right).

If you take a look at the first picture, you’ll see that the “Happy Horse” has red letterings instead of the normal yellow. And for the second shot, you can see why it’s called the “HAPPY” Horse. The Logo on the right is more comical, the head tilted slightly so it looks like it’s ‘smiling’, compared to the more serious-looking horse on the other.

I never got the chance to drink it, as my brother finished it off before I got the chance to take a sip (darn him ~_~). Maybe other tangero bloggers out there can try to find another Happy Horse and tell me if it does have a stronger “tama”.

For now, I’m off to search my mom’s store for another one. XD

The 9th Philippine Toys, Hobbies and Collection Convention

Like… OMG! OMG! OMG!!!

They finally have a set date for the 2010 ToyCon!

According to the Official website of the Phil. Toys, Hobbies and Collectibles Convention (also known as ToyCon), it “will be held at the SM Megatrade Hall 2 and 3, Megamall, Mandaluyong City this June 19 & 20, 2010, from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM.”

This means… I need a Cosplay costume before June 19th!!! ~_~

Oh yeah, in case you haven’t noticed, I am a HUGE anime nut. Ever since I saw Voltes V and those sentai TV shows like Maskman, I’ve been into Japanese TV shows (even those batsu or punishment games shown in YouTube XD). And since I’ve visited the 2010 Otaku Expo, I have been hankering to get my hands on a costume worth cosplaying.

However, I am faced with the same dilemma that a lot of cosplayers go through… which is answering the question, “What character am I going to cosplay?”

I would really like to cosplay, but with my figure, it’s really hard to decide. I can’t exactly parade around MegaMall in a too-tight costume showing my wobbly bits to the people (and believe me, they are wobbly), so yeah, it’s hard to think about a costume that will compliment my size and shape. Not to mention there are issues about money and resources…

So, to you, my audience, I now ask a simple question. Which character can a 5 foot 3 fluffy woman with a weight of 80 kilos cosplay? And please… PLEASE don’t suggest Choji from Naruto. As much as I love Gaara, I’ve felt no feelings what-so-ever with the other characters of that anime. Well, maybe I CAN cosplay Tsunade… but I’m not a big fan of Naruto…

Geeze, God knows that if I had a figure of Angelina Jolie, I’d be parading around ToyCon in a Lara Croft outfit or something as bad a$$ and sexy as this chick:

Bayonetta

Look at all that leather…. XD

Rename Issues

Yes, in case you haven’t noticed, I have renamed my site. From the previous address of lokako.blogspot, it is now named frickingjoy.blogspot.com. ^_~v

There’s a story about that, which I will gladly tell you soon.

As of right now, I’m kind of enjoying the name change. “Frickin’ Joy”… it kinda sounds like something from a Jollibee menu, doesn’t it?

I guess it took me a while to think of this name, actually, it was my lovely sister’s idea to name it as such. AND she has gladly offered her assistance in making stuff to post about as well as pictures. Hooray for awesome sisters! Now I REALLY have to get myself a digital camera. Must add that to Wants List… right next to Yoshitaka Amano and Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman graphic novel and a silver replica of Arwen’s Evenstar necklace…

Whew, anyway, that’s it for now. It’s 10:12 in the evening and I’m waiting for midnight to kick in. It’s a Sunday tomorrow, hence, it’s gonna be a Bonus Day in Dissidia for me. Damn! I’m so addicted to this game! Darn you, Joyce, for introducing me to this!!! Which reminds me, I should make a post about that. Hmm…
