Of Fame and Stupidity

*Before you read this, I would like to state that this post is of my own opinion. Whether you share the same opinion or not, well… that’s your own making, my friend.*

I will be direct in saying that I don’t normally write about rappers, or any artist for that matter. I’ll probably write about them if I love them to death, but today, I’m going to make an exception.
Particularly since this rapper is an exceptionally stupid artist.

Yep, I am talking about Kanye West. You all know him. He’s a rapper and a lot of people know him for his outrageous behavior and his rants. I, at this moment, now particularly know him as a prick.

Being an avid surfer, I came across this post by Billy Johnson, Jr. about the recent fiasco between Kanye West and Taylor Swift. As quoted from Billy’s blog, here’s what happened:

I thought it was a joke when Kanye showed up on the MTV Video Music Awards stage next to Taylor Swift, right in the middle of her acceptance speech for Best Female Video for “You Belong With Me.” It was the first Moon Man for the 19-year-old country starlet, who has become an equally huge star in the pop world..

“I always dreamed about what it would be like to win one of these one day,” Taylor said with surprise. “I never thought it would happen.”.

As Taylor continued, Kanye interrupted, saying he thought Beyonce’s “Single Ladies” video was wrongly overlooked. “Hey Taylor, I’m really happy for you, but Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time.”.

Taylor looked humiliated. I felt humiliated for her. The audience booed him, and gave her a standing ovation.

In typical angry persons terms… What The Fuck?!

Seriously. I liked Kanye. (note on the past tense “liked”) I thought his remix and song “Stronger” was pretty cool. I, however, draw the line when it comes to busting up someone’s moment, particularly if the person whose moment you’re busting up happens to be a great artist.

I’ll also admit that I am not into mushy songs. The only Taylor Swift song I liked was “Teardrops On My Guitar”, but she’s a seriously, SERIOUSLY wonderful artist. If she wasn’t, then she wouldn’t have won that award in the first place.

It’s just really annoying when people like Kanye do this kind of thing. It’s just not right. Haven’t they ever heard of respect? Or at the very least, of blogging? Kanye has his own blog, he would’ve just written it down there and just let his fans read it and agree with him. But noooooo… he had to go up the stage and pretty much say to her Taylor’s face, “Taylor, girl, you suck… Beyonce’s vid is better than yours.”

Ugh. Seriously. What the hell?! If I was there I’d probably thrown a stiletto shoe right up there and hit Kanye in the face.

This is the reason why very few people should become famous, or at the very least, artist should be subjected to Psychiatric Consultation every few years. Look at Kanye. Look at Chris Brown. Look at Amy Winehouse. You can’t blame it all on sex, drugs, money and fame. Normal people wouldn’t get these things into their heads if there isn’t some sort of psychological issue underneathe that. I personally believe that Kanye, for one, has some sort of narcissistic disorder. Why? Because he believes that he should always be awarded for his work, and he believes that everyone wants to hear his opinion.

Kudos to Beyonce, though. After what happened to Taylor, she had the grace and poise to give Taylor a chance to finish her acceptance speech:

“Wow, this is amazing,” Beyonce said when receiving her award. “I remember being 17-years-old and up for my first MTV award with Destiny’s Child. It was one of the most exciting moments in my life. So, I’d like for Taylor to come out and have her moment.”.

Taylor then joined Beyonce on stage and recited her acceptance speech, only making a subtle reference to the incident. Before rattling off her special thanks, she said, “Maybe we can try this again.”

Now THAT, my friends, is one classy chick. All hail the coolness of Beyonce.

Anyway, I don’t know if this… whatever this crap Kanye did… was a publicity stunt, but if it is, it is one crappy way to win fans. I don’t know how many fans are still behind Kanye after this, but I’m sure of one thing… he has lost one fan here in the Philippines.
